Cutting in action

I was about to cut a kissing couple on a bike piece when I realized I should give something a try. have been wanting to do a timelapse video of myself cutting, so I setup my camera and took a long video.

Fortunately, my PC has some built-in video editing software so I was able to fast-forward through much of it to show the entire process in just under two minutes. SO, without further ado, here's the video. I hope you enjoy:

  1. Joe! You are amazing! I've always thought about doing something like this and you've just set the bar higher. Well done!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I've done a bit of paper-cutting but your pieces simply amaze me (I first found you on etsy just from a random search). I was wondering if you'd be willing to share what type of knife you are using...I found it interesting that you can hold it basically upright...much more control than what I've been using. Thanks much!

  3. Hi Rachel,

Here's a post on my knife. It took a while to figure out how to hold the knife in a way that makes the swivel part function smoothly. I essentially push/pull with my whole arm, and direct the knife left/right with my thumb.

  4. wow1 That was really fun to watch! Thanks!

  5. that bike video makes it look like you are drawing the image as you cut it. could this possibly be true? i imagined you not only drew it first, but even projected an image from a picture onto the paper and traced it. i would love to know about this aspect of your technique. your work is amazing!
